What Is the Science Behind SkinPen?
Collagen is what gives the skin a plumped and youthful appearance. From your mid 20’s, your natural repair and rejuvenation mechanisms begin to decline, with the amount of collagen in your skin progressively decreasing as you get older.
Microneedling involves the use of extremely fine needles to penetrate the skin, which stimulates your body’s natural regenerative and repair processes. The result is an increase in natural collagen and elastin, reflected in a healthy, glowing, even toned and youthful looking skin.
What Can I Expect From Treatment?
After carrying out a consultation and ensuring SkinPen is suitable for you, a local numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area and left for 20-30 minutes to ensure treatment comfort. The treatment will then be carried out using the SkinPen precision device, treatment depth can be altered depending on the area of the face or body being treated. The treatment head is single use only, ensuring safety and efficacy of needle sharpness.
Following treatment the skin will appear flushed, similar in appearance to sunburn. This will subside over the next 24hrs, with most of the redness calming within a few hours post treatment. This is the desired reaction, as it show the body’s inflammatory response has been triggered, which is necessary for triggering the skin’s natural rejuvenation response.
After the healing stage, the skin will begin laying down fresh collagen, resulting in an improvement in the appearance of the skin. This process will continue for up to a year post treatment, with the majority of improvement happening within the first 6 months post treatment. For best results a course of treatment is required. For rejuvenation a course of 3-6 treatments (spaced every 4 weeks) is recommended and for scarring a minimum course of 6 treatments is advised.
